High School Clubs
2024-2025 Emerson High School Club Offerings
Art Club We make ART! This club is meant to be a space for all students- from those looking to refine their skills, to those who simply want to explore new materials and spend time with like minded people! In addition to the studio being open to students nearly everyday for art making (under teacher supervision), the board members will host monthly events with guided activities. You do not need to be enrolled in an art class to join- in fact, if you do not have room to take art classes, it is even MORE important that you join! If you are looking to join the National Art Honors Society in the future, committing to the art club is one great way to earn your membership.

Autism Awareness & Special Needs Club strives to educate others and raise awareness for Autism. Raising money for Autism research is our goal. Please join our club to help spread awareness and raise money for Autism. We encourage ideas from all club members. This is a club where you can participate in any way that you are comfortable, and you can add much as you desire! Students select fundraisers and help run them.

Cavo Cancer Crushers is a club that supports a variety of cancer awareness activities throughout the school year, as well as entering a team in the Pascack Valley Relay for Life, the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. All students grades 7 through 12 are invited to join us to bring communities together to remember loved ones lost, honor survivors of all cancers, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society make a global impact on cancer.

Cavo Coders Come join us as we delve into the world of programming. We discover types of coding not seen in the classroom such as Unity Engine. We also actively help the robotics team and participate in local HACKATHONS. Contact: C. Schama (cschama@emersonschools.org)
Chess Club Join us to learn, practice, and compete in one of the world’s great games: Chess! Did you know that the youngest chess grandmaster in the world is from New Jersey? Chess is an old game and the rules can be learned in an afternoon, but really mastering the game takes years. Emerson’s Chess Club is just starting out, but we have grand(master) plans to attend tournaments and hold tournaments of our own. Warning: playing chess might improve your focus and your math skills.

Color Guard Come join this team of students who rehearses and performs choreographed dances and routines with various equipment to enhance and interpret the music of the high school marching band.

Debate Team The debate team competes with schools in the Bergen County Debate League and uses logic, listening, and argument skills to present each side of the resolution. This year’s national resolution is: The United States federal government should enact substantial criminal justice reform in one or more of the following areas: forensic science, policing, or sentencing.

DECA is an international association of high school and college students and teachers. It prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. DECA develops the next generation to be academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, experienced leaders. #MaximizeYourMomentum. Emerson Drone Racing Team is a great way to expose students to drones and their applications. By participating in the club, members will have the opportunity to fly and repair a drone for the first time and race it against other club member's. The club will focus on not only fostering a community of drone racing enthusiasts but also on teaching students and interested parties how to build, develop, repair, and fly racing drones.

Esports/Video Game Club will dive deep into the world of competitive video games. During meetings, members will discuss different aspects of many different games and what goes through the minds of professional players. Members will also have opportunities to play games and show off their skills. This is a great chance to make some connections and maybe even raise your in-game rank.

Environmental/Sustainability Club is a hands-on, unique experience where students are able to relax and learn through the art and science of gardening. With access to the EHS rear courtyard, students will be able to sow seeds and tend to their plants from seed to harvest. Fundraisers such as the Spring and Fall Plant Bulbs Sales, the Mother’s Day Plant Sale along with our annual field trip to the New York Botanical Garden are some of the highlights of the year. Join today and help in making our school a little bit greener! Available to 11th and 12 grades only.

F1 Club A group to discuss events, jobs, and engineering behind F1 Racing. We will debrief what happens during races as well as changes in teams and drivers within the sport. We will also look into how the cars themselves work in order to have a better understanding of the decisions teams make. We want to look into jobs within the sport other than the drivers and how to get to those positions. We want to be able to connect Formula 1 fans within the school.

Fishing Club provides an opportunity to learn all about fishing. Everything from equipment, strategy, technique, etc. will be discussed at meetings. There will also be opportunities to take that knowledge and try to catch some fish at local bodies of water after school during the fall and spring.

Investing Club The Investing Club is focused on providing students with an introduction to finance and hands-on experience with stock trading. Students will have the opportunity to learn about other investment options such as bonds and mutual funds. Club members will participate in the Stock Market Game, an online simulation, which gives students a virtual $100,000 in order to create an investment portfolio. The cub members will form teams, allowing us to enter a competition within Northern New Jersey. Competitive options are semester or year-long. Students will have to conduct company research using Yahoo! Finance, Google Finance, CNBC and other sources. Students will gain experience by following the stock market indices and different economic events that have an impact on companies’ stock performance. Students will learn about the difference between investing for long and short periods of time and how they can use investing in their adult lives.

Paws for a Cause Club is open to any student in the school who is interested in helping out local animal shelters collect much needed goods and supplies. We will also research pet wellness information and educate the school on wildlife and animal causes in the northern New Jersey area. This is a student-driven club and any other ideas you may have will also be discussed. Meetings TBD.

RoboCavos Students will cooperate as a team to build a single robot that will accomplish a list of tasks required by FTC competition. Students will build and program an autonomous function that will allow the robot to traverse a field, manipulate items and organize items as needed. The team will compete with other teams throughout NJ with the hopes to compete nationally. Team will meet daily during the activity period in room 35 during build season.

Rock Climbing Club The main mission of the Rock Climbing Club is to build positive and confident youth while inspiring life long learning through the art of rock climbing. We want to introduce and educate our fellow students in climbing fundamentals, technique, and safety, as well as build a community of climbers dedicated to sharing the passion and rewards that this unique and wonderful sport can bring. We want to focus on growing a climbing community where all feel welcome and accepted, welcoming people of all races, genders, and ability levels. Our goal is to have a place to pursue adventure, seek new challenges, socialize with other active people, and exercise all while having fun.

Ski & Snowboard Club Skiers and snowboarders can take advantage of the Discounted lift tickets available through the Emerson ski and snowboard club this year. At this time we are unable to offer school trips like previous years. We will be exploring options throughout the year to hit the slopes, the club access will allow you and your family to purchase discounted season passes and more!.

Yearbook Club Will work on completing tasks necessary for the publication of the yearbook. Some of which include: taking pictures, editing pictures, selling ads, creating ads, working on yearbook fundraisers and many more exciting things!

Unity Club is a club that promotes inclusivity and appreciation for different cultures and communities by raising awareness, showing support and fundraising. We will be learning about the different cultures through art, food, music, history, etc. and will be discussing current events/issues. The goal is to provide a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment for ALL Emerson students!

Weightlifting Club A chance for students to build up their speed, strength, and overall fitness. Students will establish goals and learn how to reach their maximum potential through various training and workout programs specific to each individual. A great chance to get some exercise and interact with other students who share common fitness goals. All students in grades 9-12 are welcome!

Junior High Vocal Ensemble This group of singers will focus on one or two songs to be performed at the holiday and spring concerts. You must be a member of the Junior High Chorus to be in the vocal ensemble. It is a chance for singers to sing/perform music that is not part of the regular chorus repertoire. Once the group is set, we will decide the best schedule for rehearsals. The group chooses the songs and Mr. Ullman (wullman@emersonschools.org) helps to teach it.
Junior High Jazz Band - This ensemble is open to instrumental students. Typically a jazz band is made up of a saxophone section, trombone section, trumpet section, and rhythm section (piano, guitar, bass, and drums.) However, all instruments are welcome and no jazz experience is required. We will explore a mix of jazz, rock, latin, and other styles.

Spring Track & Field This club is an actual sport; a sport that has a place for everyone. Whether you want to run or try some field events, you can find a place to have some fun, keep in shape, and even prepare you for joining High School track. Practice is held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 3:15-5:30. You can participate in running events like the 100M, 200M, 400M, 800M, 1600M and relay races, as well as field events like the high jump, long jump, shot put, and discus. There will be dual track meets and even a league championship meet. Join us and get ready to run and have fun!
