Dear Emerson Families,
We have truly enjoyed celebrating our students' achievements through the various performances and recognition ceremonies held this year. We look forward to honoring our junior high and senior students during our upcoming academic awards ceremonies. Additionally, we are proud to celebrate the outstanding Class of 2026 at our commencement exercises on June 24 at 7:00 PM on the athletic field.
We invite the entire community to join us for another wonderful performing arts showcase. Cavopalooza! will take place on June 11 at 7:00 PM in front of the school. Come enjoy the amazing talent of our students on stage and sample delicious offerings from our culinary program.
I am incredibly proud of our students and teachers for their continued dedication and hard work as we approach the end of the school year. Please note that regular coursework will continue through the end of the term, and report cards will be issued on the afternoon of June 24.

Students just finished reading and discussing the novel, Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper. While reading this novel, students studied themes pertaining to acceptance, perseverance, and the power of communication. Literary skills students also worked on while reading this novel include but are not limited to: text structure, inference and summary, and author’s purpose and tone. Students will conclude this unit by engaging in a series of activities that will require them to both analyze a character and their development over the course of the text and utilize textual evidence to support a claim.-In these pictures, students can be seen working on a project that requires them to analyze a character and their development over the course of Out of My Mind. |
Our math classrooms have been working hard and showing great growth this month! In 7th grade, students have been exploring geometry through the study of 2D and 3D figures, building their understanding of shapes, surface area, and volume through hands-on activities and problem solving. Our 8th graders are wrapping up their unit on transformations, using reflections, rotations, translations, and dilations to deepen their understanding of geometry and coordinate planes. Meanwhile, our 9th grade students recently completed their major unit on quadratic functions and are now beginning their study of exponential functions, making connections between algebraic models and real-world applications. Students have just begun to read the novel, Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood by Trevor Noah. While reading this novel, students will consider the following questions: “How can we respect and embrace each other’s differences as well as our own?”, “Is it necessary to conform to societal norms to successfully function in that society?”, and “What moral obligations do we have as members of society to look out for one another? Whose voices mattered?” When students read Chapter 1 entitled “Run” in class, they were tasked to focus on the following literary skills while discussing the importance of the chapter with the members at their table: characterization (direct v. indirect), conflicts, and setting. Students were also tasked to have discussions about Trevor Noah’s family dynamic and compare it to their own. |
This month, our Physical Education curriculum transitioned through a sophisticated exploration of kinesthetic differentiation and high-intensity physiological conditioning. We initiated the cycle with a cynosure on Diamond Sports (softball, kickball, wiffle ball and tennis ball derivatives), where students analyzed the rotational kinetics required for projectile exit velocities and the neuromuscular synchronization demands for fielding diverse galvanizing objects. We shifted into Ultimate Sports—including Ultimate Frisbee, Ultimate Basketball, Ultimate Football, and Handball—which served as a rigorous laboratory for lactic and alactic metabolic pathways. These "Ultimate" variations demand exceptional spatial-temporal awareness and constant proprioceptive adjustments as students navigate complex team invasion tactics. Whether refining their unilateral throwing motor skills or optimizing their cardiovascular endurance during rapid transitions, our students have demonstrated a remarkable grasp of the biomechanics and physiology behind elite athletic performance. Lastly we transferred to Pickle ball, a dynamic racket sport that served as an exceptional practical application of explosive neuromuscular power, reactive agility, and strategic spatial positioning. Operating heavily within the ATP-CP and anaerobic glycolytic energy systems, Pickleball demands rapid, high-intensity bursts of acceleration paired with brief recovery periods. Students consistently engaged their fast-twitch muscle fibers to execute explosive lateral shuffles and sudden directional changes, all while maintaining a low, athletic center of gravity.

Students in AP U.S. History have been hard at work preparing for the AP Exam, which was administered on May 8th. Throughout the year, students have diligently participated in review activities, strengthened their writing and reading analysis skills, and engaged in thoughtful discussions surrounding major historical concepts and themes. Their dedication and perseverance have been evident as they worked to develop a deeper understanding of historical events while practicing the critical thinking and argumentative writing skills required for the exam. Alongside exam preparation, students have also taken part in fun and creative projects that bring historical topics to life, allowing them to connect with history in engaging and meaningful ways. In the U.S. History I classes students are wrapping up the curriculum with an in-depth study of the Civil War and Reconstruction. Students are examining the political, social, and economic causes of the Civil War, as well as the lasting impact the conflict had on the nation.Through discussions, primary source analysis, and class activities, students are gaining a better understanding of how these pivotal events transformed the future of the nation and continue to influence American society today.

Doctor order forms for the 2026-2027 school year will be sent home with your child’s current medication(s). Please check expiration dates before returning any medication(s) in September.
- Attention Parents of FALL Athletes: Summer is right around the corner. If your student athlete needs an updated Athletic Health Physical please make your appointment now. Physicals are due before any practice begins in August.
